Timothea T. Leung


In 2012, Timothea earned an LL.M. in International Business and Economic Law at Georgetown University. She also obtained a J.D. and an LL.B. in 2008 from the University of Detroit Mercy and the University of Windsor, and a B.A. from McGill University in 2004. Timothea is licensed to practice law in the Province of Ontario and in the State of New York.

Timothea is a litigator with a special focus on all aspects of insurance defence, including property, coverage, priority and accident benefits matters. Prior to joining Gilbert Kirby Stringer LLP, she worked at respected insurance defence firms in downtown Toronto and Hamilton, representing clients in complex litigation matters before Financial Services Commission, License Appeal Tribunal, Superior Court of Justice and as co-counsel for matters before the Court of Appeal and Divisional Court. She also assisted in preparing intervener submissions to the Supreme Court of Canada in Canada vs. Khadr.

Timothea has international legal experience, previously serving as a consultant for the World Bank in D.C., and as a fellow at the Institute of International Economic Law. She clerked for the judges in TCIII at the United Nations’ International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia located in the Hague, and argued the semi-final and final rounds for the winning team at the 2007 Niagara International Moot Court Cup Competition.

She is a member of the Canadian Defence Lawyers’ Association, Diversity Committee. She was also one of the architects behind the Young Lawyers’ Practical Skills Series, and went on to co-chair the November 2017 and 2018 sessions.
